Attuning to the Radiant Dark
Painting by Yoyoi Kusama
The lapse in regular writings here stems from waiting for some inner, felt clarity on how to engage in speaking of the arising of the Divine from the Center of Earth. A soul-spirituality. Arising rather than Descending, recognizing the Two are One, but the Arising has been occluded for centuries. Present, yes, but hidden. The original Creation was/is/always occurring as a union that creates matter-as-soul-longing. BUT -- the new spiritual work is the work, the Way of Descent, of going down to meet Her arising.
Whereas, meditatively, the development of consciousness within the ‘higher’ regions requires practices of going out-of-body (See, for example, Rudolf Steiner, but many other spiritual paths also), the path of the descent requires going into body. The ur-practice of receptivity.
The path of ascent utilizes the inner sense of ‘seeing’ – being a see-ker, a seer, while the path of descent utilizes the inner sense of hearing, of sound, of noticing vibrations, hearing the simultaneity of sounding and re-sounding. The path of descent recognizes that every cell of the body is conscious, all together a One consciousness, rather than the separated body, the individual body. Through the path of descent there is a transformation of the individual into the person.
The manner of the path of descent is difficult. Rudolf Steiner says it is far more difficult than the path of ascent, but in this time, there is really not an option, and the first step is one of carefully avoiding using the tools of ascent to try the descent.
In writings to follow, I will go through a (not “the”) way of attuning to the Divine Soul, introducing a series of practices specifically developed for this purpose. They could not be fully developed until I found, already completed, what I have been working on since 1972 --- fumblingly. Fumblingly because it involved the circuitous route of going into psychology, then phenomenology, the depth psychology of C.G. Jung, the archetypal psychology of James Hillman, the Spiritual Science of Rudolf Steiner, the Imaginal Sufism of Henry Corbin, and, by far the most helpful of all, the Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.
For this time, though, let’s go through some of the ‘stages’ of surrender that are demanded, something to return to time and time again:
~~~ The body-subtle is the instrument plucked from below and when it’s vibrations increase, mind also vibrates – this vibration must separate itself from the naïve notion of excitement.
~~~ The Ego has to go – in the sense that this path is not for us alone; it is inseparable from an inherent inward care of Earth.
~~~ The re-sounding of the Sound can only be heard from the place of perfect peace.
~~~ Sounding and re-sounding are the vibration of the Divine Soul – who is not “something that vibrates”, but the purity of non-physical, physical vibration – Beauty creating Beauty.
~~~ Fear nothing. Love is the antidote of fear. The preparation for dissolving fear is noticing the vibration of Love.
~~~ The sounding-resounding way deepens with the awakening of sustained intuition.
~~~ The resounding of Sound within the body-subtle is the process of Surrender, which is not one of ‘giving-up’, but the process of living-as-giving-receiving-giving without end.
~~~ Stop seeking, start listening.
~~~ Notice how Earth chants and can be “heard’ within the body as purity of feeling.
~~~ Learning to re-create the sounding-resounding as the making of the Earth-World, the union of human bodying, with the Divine Soul.
~~~ Learn the manner of intuitive spontaneity as giving the directions on what to do, when, and how.
