The Truth of the Way Down
In 2005, a painting by Leonardo da Vinci was discovered, of all places in Louisiana.( That it was found in Louisiana may be related to the fact that it was painted for King Louis XII of France.)
In my book, Love and the Soul: Creating a Future for Earth, I mentioned the inner significance of the explosion of the atomic bomb, a Plutonium explosion occurring at 5:29:45 A. M., July, 1945, at the Alamogordo Bombing range, a volcano, in the region named Jornata del Muerto, which means “On Dead Man’s Route”. The first lines of a song titled Jornata del Muerto are: “Lift Me Up, Let Me Go.”
I read/understood that event as the end of the wholeness of Earth united with the human-divine worlds. That moment declared humanity as separated from the spiritual worlds – oh, and we declared also that earth is ours for the taking. We are now completely on our own. We have seen that imagination unfolding since and now culminating. It was also the moment of the arising of Pluto (plutonium) from the Underworld. We are now surely in the Underworld.
Then, the moment of the 9/11 explosion in Manhattan ("Manahata", from the Iroquois, meaning “the place where we all became intoxicated”), another surfacing of the Underworld, of other beings of the Underworld, having to do with pure greed, intoxication with greed and violence for the sake of violence. We are now even deeper in the Underworld. The problem is we are not conscious of where we are nor where we are going – it’s all happening blindly, without imagination, and we cannot see the journey as sacred and do not know how to make the journey an inward journey, and thus it becomes literalized in outward events.
The painting -- The very extraordinary painting by Leonardo, shows the way of self-awakening in combination with Spiritual-Earth awakening. Salvator Mundi, the Savior of the World, was painted in 1500; it disappeared in the 17th century until it was found and restored from 2005-2008 and exhibited for the first time on November 11, 2011, barely three months after 9/11. It sold for $450 million dollars, purchased by Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, to be placed in the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Thus far, it has not been displayed. (Play with the imagination revealed here.)
The Way is Now Down
There is now a way down to the Divine Soul, imagined as at the center of the earth rather than in the heavens. The true secret of this painting, at least from the imagining of an integral spiritual psychology (No art critic or expert has seen the paining in this way.), is found with the clear crystal orb Christ holds in his left hand. The orb is a mysterious alteration of the more usual form of an orb surmounted by a cross. The orb is understood as the Earth. But, this orb is transparent. Get that one – this orb is transparent, that is to say invisible -- the invisible Earth, the Spiritual-Earth.
Look at the picture of a crystal orb below. In an orb, the heavens and the Earth are reversed; the heavens are down and Earth is up. The way down is the way up! And the way up Is the way down! That is, Salvador Mundi is saying, the way is now down -- to the Divine Soul. Because of depth psychology, we do not consider ‘down’ as the way to the Divine Soul, but rather to the so-called unconscious. The error of depth psychology has obscured coming into the presence of the Divine Soul. How to begin the journey? The way of receptivity, the Feminine way. Next post.
Attuning to the Radiant Dark
Painting by Yoyoi Kusama
The lapse in regular writings here stems from waiting for some inner, felt clarity on how to engage in speaking of the arising of the Divine from the Center of Earth. A soul-spirituality. Arising rather than Descending, recognizing the Two are One, but the Arising has been occluded for centuries. Present, yes, but hidden. The original Creation was/is/always occurring as a union that creates matter-as-soul-longing. BUT -- the new spiritual work is the work, the Way of Descent, of going down to meet Her arising.
Whereas, meditatively, the development of consciousness within the ‘higher’ regions requires practices of going out-of-body (See, for example, Rudolf Steiner, but many other spiritual paths also), the path of the descent requires going into body. The ur-practice of receptivity.
The path of ascent utilizes the inner sense of ‘seeing’ – being a see-ker, a seer, while the path of descent utilizes the inner sense of hearing, of sound, of noticing vibrations, hearing the simultaneity of sounding and re-sounding. The path of descent recognizes that every cell of the body is conscious, all together a One consciousness, rather than the separated body, the individual body. Through the path of descent there is a transformation of the individual into the person.
The manner of the path of descent is difficult. Rudolf Steiner says it is far more difficult than the path of ascent, but in this time, there is really not an option, and the first step is one of carefully avoiding using the tools of ascent to try the descent.
In writings to follow, I will go through a (not “the”) way of attuning to the Divine Soul, introducing a series of practices specifically developed for this purpose. They could not be fully developed until I found, already completed, what I have been working on since 1972 --- fumblingly. Fumblingly because it involved the circuitous route of going into psychology, then phenomenology, the depth psychology of C.G. Jung, the archetypal psychology of James Hillman, the Spiritual Science of Rudolf Steiner, the Imaginal Sufism of Henry Corbin, and, by far the most helpful of all, the Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.
For this time, though, let’s go through some of the ‘stages’ of surrender that are demanded, something to return to time and time again:
~~~ The body-subtle is the instrument plucked from below and when it’s vibrations increase, mind also vibrates – this vibration must separate itself from the naïve notion of excitement.
~~~ The Ego has to go – in the sense that this path is not for us alone; it is inseparable from an inherent inward care of Earth.
~~~ The re-sounding of the Sound can only be heard from the place of perfect peace.
~~~ Sounding and re-sounding are the vibration of the Divine Soul – who is not “something that vibrates”, but the purity of non-physical, physical vibration – Beauty creating Beauty.
~~~ Fear nothing. Love is the antidote of fear. The preparation for dissolving fear is noticing the vibration of Love.
~~~ The sounding-resounding way deepens with the awakening of sustained intuition.
~~~ The resounding of Sound within the body-subtle is the process of Surrender, which is not one of ‘giving-up’, but the process of living-as-giving-receiving-giving without end.
~~~ Stop seeking, start listening.
~~~ Notice how Earth chants and can be “heard’ within the body as purity of feeling.
~~~ Learning to re-create the sounding-resounding as the making of the Earth-World, the union of human bodying, with the Divine Soul.
~~~ Learn the manner of intuitive spontaneity as giving the directions on what to do, when, and how.
